Waiting for the European final, a sport activity involving children is taking place
Waiting for the Final European Skiing Championships 5 - Memorial Hans Erlacher, scheduled from 11th to 14th February on mount Zoncolan, the Ski Club 2 of Monfalcone has been running, over the last weeks, an intense promotion activity in the local schools, making youths reflect upon sport as a path to self-fulfilment.
With this view, just today Sunday 17th December, about ten partially-sighted boys between 8 and 16 years of age, coming not only from Monfalcone but also from Udine and Pordenone, are going to take part in a training session dedicated to them (complete with guides and trainers), on the snowy slopes of Piancavallo. All this is made possible thanks to the Ski Club 2, which beside finding the staff it also took upon itself to provide the transport service from Monfalcone (and other places) to the ski tracks. “It's a very important activity for us, which not only involves an busy organizational work but gives great satisfaction too, also because we hope that some of them could become in the future one of the leading protagonists of the Olympic Games” said Paolo Tavian, trainer and Member of the Europeans Organizing Committee.
In the meantime, as abovementioned, the spromotion activity is going on in each single school, involving children of all classes, from the primary to the secondary schools, all over the local area. Meetings, during which short films of previous editions together with the aims of the event were shown to the children, have already been held in Monfalcone, Staranzano, Doberdò and Fogliano, and others will be soon held in Mariano. At the end of this series of meetings, the youths who took part in the conferences will be taken on special private coaches going to Zoncolan ski runs to watch the competition.
